Bendy and the Ink Machine is a survival horror game that is divide up into five chapters. In the game you play as Henry a retired animator who returned to his old studio after receiving a letter from his old friend Joey Drew. The game itself is published under the name of the fictional animation studio Joey Drew Studios Inc. Throughout the game you have to solve puzzles, fight different ink monsters and explore the different levels of the studio.

There are various types of ink monsters each with different strength levels but the main monster to look out for is of course Bendy who with instantly kill you if you get caught. However at one point in Chapter 4 Bendy saves you from another monster the Projectionist. In the game there you can find voice recorders that tell the stories of the employees of the studio some of which you need to find in secret areas of the game.
In the game you have to do a lot of exploring and item gathering. One big example is in chapter three where you meet two other main characters from the Bendy cartoon Alice Angel and Boris. She offers to free Henry if he helps her do a few tasks and gives him various tools to help him. However Alice betrays Henry stealing Boris and dropping the elevator Henry is in trapping him deeper in studio.
The game has a lot if lore especially in figuring out who the Bendy and Alice Angel are. Most people believe Alice is a ink machine transformed Susie who once voiced the character Alice Angel in the cartoon. She was replaced by another voice actor and hold a lot of anger and hatred towards Joey and the studio which is why the ink machine made her into a deformed and crazy version of Alice Angel.
Alice is only one of many people who have been transformed by the ink machine all the ink monsters throughout the game were once employees of the studio. However not all of them try to attack you later in the game there are a bunch of ink monsters called lost ones who instead are waiting to be saved as shown by the writings on the walls.
